Abstract

Distributed energy resources continue to proliferate, the development of Microgrid (MG) structures is becoming increasingly essential to bolster the reliability of distributed electric power systems. This growth leads to a complexity in microgrid structures that may induce instability through cascaded interconnections of multiple ac-ac converters. This study explores the application of a non-integer controller approach to maintain voltage stability within the MG structure. The resulting control strategy can be assimilated into a grid to create an intelligent microgrid system. A method is presented for analyzing an MG that includes multiple interconnected converters. By linearizing this system and employing a non-integer PI control through Matlab/Simulink, the voltage levels within the structure can be stabilized. When compared to the conventional integer order PI control approach, the proposed fractional order controller design demonstrates its efficacy in enhancing stability performance, increasing voltage regulation, and improving transient response in the system.
