The Morphological Comparison by Abī ḥyyān in al-Tadhyīl wa-al-takmīl between Ibn Malik’s al-Tasʹhīl li- and his two books: sharḥ al-Kāfiyah wʼyjāz al-taʻrīf

Abstract

This research aims to shed light on the morphological comparisons presented in the works of Abu Hayyan, in which he compared Ibn Malik’s Al-Tashil with his own two books (Sharh Al-Kafiyah and Ijaz Al-Tarif). These comparisons reveal Abu Hayyan’s critical focus, which varied in nature. At times, he explicitly points out contradictions in Ibn Malik’s statements, while at other times, he favors a phrase in one of Ibn Malik’s books over another or praises a particular expression in one of the works.
